EXPANSIVE Lucia Lucas

Join internationally acclaimed baritone Lucia Lucas for Expansive 2025 – a vibrant showcase of transgender and non-binary classical artists presented by The Transgender District and Opera Parallèle, returning for its fourth year as a centerpiece celebration of California’s groundbreaking Transgender History Month every August. Expanding this year to the A.C.T.'s iconic Toni Rembe Theater, this dynamic event continues to uplift gender-expansive voices in classical music and performance. Lucas, a trailblazer in the field, made history as the first transgender person to perform a principal role on an American operatic stage and has since starred at major houses including the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. A multidisciplinary artist and passionate advocate for trans representation in the arts, she will be joined by pianist Taylor Chan and a stellar lineup of local guest performers to be announced. Don’t miss this one-night-only celebration on August 7, 2025.

Opera Ball

Join us for San Francisco Opera's biggest fundraiser of the year on September 5, 2025. The evening kicks off with a red carpet and cocktail reception in the historic City Hall, followed by a sumptuous dinner featuring local chefs. After dinner, immerse yourself in the magic of Verdi's Rigoletto, conducted by Music Director Eun Sun Kim. Conclude the night with an after-party back at City Hall, featuring live music and delightful company. Rigoletto

Rigoletto, composed by Giuseppe Verdi, is a tragic opera that tells the story of a court jester whose sharp tongue and cruel humor eventually lead to his downfall. Set in Renaissance Italy, the opera explores themes of love and betrayal through the tragic experiences of Rigoletto and his daughter, Gilda. The production, which runs from September 5 to September 27, 2025, features beautiful music and a lavish setting inspired by Giorgio de Chirico, creating a compelling backdrop for this distinguished work.
