About this event

Join fellow artists and members at the Asian Art Museum for an evening of art-making focused on puppet design. This event will feature insights from Associate Curator of Southeast Asian Art, Dr. Natasha Reichle, who will draw inspiration from the museum's collection of theatrical arts. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own puppets under the guidance of artist Risa Iwaskai Culbertson. Admission is free for members and their guests, but reservations are recommended. Come and explore the world of puppetry, with activities scheduled from 5:45 PM to 7:30 PM, following a meet and greet with fellow artists at 5:15 PM.

Come join a curator of the Randall Museum’s Wild in California wildlife exhibit in an open discussion about our rescue animal ambassadors. Learn about their stories and why they now reside here with us. Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about the wildlife that call California home, while also learning about how some are cared for at the museum. Guests may have a chance to see “eyes to eyes” with a tarantula, slither along with a snake, or even get a closer look at one of our birds of prey. This presentation may occur inside the animal exhibit or outdoors weather permitting.

Vietnamese Tet Celebration: Dragon Dancing

Celebrate Tet—the Vietnamese Lunar New Year—with the Dragon Dance Team from UC Berkeley’s Vietnamese Student Association. A spectacular art form in Vietnamese and Chinese culture, the dragon dance combines movement and martial arts in a vibrant, high-energy experience for all ages. In addition to a stunning dragon dance performance and all-day Mahjong, enjoy Tet-themed art activities and festive Vietnamese New Year treats. The event features the Cal VSA Dragon Dance Performance at 2:30 PM, Mahjong lessons from 10:30 AM to 4 PM, and various Tet-themed art activities throughout the day at the Asian Art Museum.

Do You See What I See?

Fort Mason Art and San Francisco Cinematheque present a one-night-only screening featuring a quartet of diverse works which were inspirational to Anthony McCall’s life and practice during the period of conceiving and creating Line Describing a Cone, works suggested by the artist (all to screen in 16mm). The program includes films by Anthony McCall, Hollis Frampton, Carolee Schneemann, and Paul Sharits. This event showcases seminal works that challenge the boundaries between film, sculpture, drawing, and performance.
